Introduction:

With a self-made questionnaire regarding the patient satisfaction after sialendoscopy (period from 2007 to 2008) first results could be published. With the same questionnaire new results with a longer follow-up period and a higher amount of patients were evaluated.

Methods:

Used was the same self-developed and non-validated questionnaire for patient satisfaction after sialendoscopy. The questionnaire includes 14 questions. All patients who received a sialendoscopy in house during a period from October 2009 to December 2016 were pleased to answer the questionnaire. The new results were compared with the results from 2007 to 2008.

Results:

The number of returned questionnaires was 155 (first survey 30). 82% of the patients reported an improvement of symptoms (first survey 80%). 72% of the patients rated the overall success of the sialendoscopy with very good or good (first survey 70%). 76% of the patients would refuse open surgery (resection of the affected gland) after sialendoscopy (first survey 47%). Only 4% had undergone open surgery at the time of the survey (first survey 17%).

Conclusion:

Even if the results of improvement of the symptoms and the rated success were not raised, the willingness of gland resection was reduced after sialendoscopy. This fact may be caused to a higher experience of the surgeon over the years. The procedure of sialendoscopy can be repeated what may increase the decision of gland preservation.
