Voice rehabilitation after total laryngectomy – a patient oriented information video
Nationwide approximately 3000 male and 400 female patient contract to laryngeal squamous cell cancer annuly. Treatment of these cancers depends i.a. on tumour extent and encompasses both surgical procedures like laser resection, partial or total laryngectomies and conservative procedures like radiation therapy or combined radiochemotherapy. In Germany ca. 1300 patient are treated by total laryngectomy. Beside losing sensory perception like smelling loss of the voice producing organ means loss of patients identity. In cooperation with patient who already underwent total laryngectomy this video provides helpful information about possibilities of voice rehabilitation after radical surgical removement of laryngeal cancer.
