E-Learning for Postgraduate Education in ENT Medicine/Phoniatrics: a mind map that summarizes structures, concepts, categories, and formats of currently available e-learning tools
Dieser Beitrag ist Teil des Projektes "Exploration of E-Learning for Communication Disorders: Platforms, Challenges, and Optimization Strategies for Quality Education of Voice Therapists and Phoniatricians" i.R. eines Bundeskanzler-Stipendiums der Alexander-von-Humboldt-Stiftung.Given the rapid growth in technologies and devices, it is easy to stay informed and up-to-date in ENT medicine/Phoniatrics, regardless of time or place. Despite wide-spreading technical accessibility, there is still limited knowledge among professionals regarding existing platforms, digital collections, online courses, apps, podcasts, simulations etc. This can be problematic since a successful search for specific content and tools requires knowledge of structures, concepts, categories, and formats of existing tools.
Our proposed poster aims to visually organize German and English e-learning tools for ENT medicine/phoniatrics based on content, target audience, learning goal (e.g., information presentation, knowledge construction, procedural competence building), and format (e.g., text, video, podcast). A search of Google (Scholar), PubMed, Cochrane Library, and known ENT society websites (e.g., IFOS, EUFOS, UEP, ELS) was conducted using the keywords "e-learning" with one of the following: "ENT," "ORL," "otolaryngology," and "digitalization." Inclusion criteria included 1) content for postgraduate education, 2) good accessibility, 3) ENT/Phoniatrics specialist involvement in tool development.
E-Learning tools that met all criteria will be presented as a structured mindmap. Analysis revealed that a majority of current tools focus on information presentation through illustrated atlases, text, videos, or e-lectures. In contrast, there are fewer tools that support interactive knowledge and competence building (e.g., simulations, virtual reality).
