In the Aftermath of COVID-19...

As the world grapples to wake up from the comatose state inflicted by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the fear of psychological effects of isolation, quarantine, loss of jobs and loss of loved ones on the human populace looms large and this is worrisome for the scientific community as well. Exactly a year after the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the new strain B117 virus or Variant Under Investigation (VUI 2020/21) currently resulting in lockdown in UK and some other European countries is a matter of concern. The variant is the result of multiple mutations in the spike protein of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, as well as mutations in other genomic regime of the RNA virus. Preliminary analysis suggests that it is more transmissible than previously circulating variants. Whether or not the new strain is a harbinger of new devastation as caused by SARS-COV-2, it is clearly a hazard for the humanity and so the scientific community will keep a careful watch on it.

The trauma from COVID-19, both physical and psychological, has been immense and overcoming it is an arduous task, a big challenge for the patient as well as the physician. A web-based survey of anxiety and depression as an aftermath of COVID-19, by Dr Amulya Ratna Sahoo, and the psychological impact of COVID-19 on lockdown population, by Dr R. Bhuvneshwari, are presented in this issue.

A webinar on the ‘Integrative approach for COVID-19’ was jointly organised by Mahesh Bhattacharyya Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital & Dr. Willmar Schwabe India Pvt. in November 2020, in India in which 10 speakers presented their papers. The proceedings of the webinar are also included in the issue. The Book Review on ‘A Functional Typology of Metals in Psychology and Medicine’ by Alla Selawry is also a major attraction of the issue. ‘Mathematical Interpretation of the Pharmaco—Dynamics of Homoeopathic Medicines’ by John Michel Warner; is another highlight of the issue. Dr Ruy Madsen presents three case reports on homoeopathy and self-injury a serious psychiatric condition, whereas Dr Karunakara Moorthy presents a case series on adjustment disorder treated with homoeopathy. One case report on reversibility of a high-grade atrioventricular block treated homoeopathically by Herman John Daniel Jeggels and another on lymphangioma of tongue treated with homoeopathy by Surayya Parveen are also included in the issue.

Melissa Annana Assilem, a homoeopath from America, departed from this world on 26th December 2020. She was an author and an innovative energy healer also. We have included a rich tribute paid to her by Jay Yasgur through his expressive reminiscences.
