Abstract

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is still regarded as an enormous medical challenge due to its complexity and poor prognosis. In spite of progress in research and therapy lethality remains unacceptably high. Besides established interventiotnal treatment options, numerous pharmacological approaches have been investigated in the past decades.

Das ARDS stellt aufgrund der Komplexität und schlechten Prognose eine enorme intensivmedizinische Herausforderung dar. Trotz aller Fortschritte in Forschung und Therapie bleibt die Letalität inakzeptabel hoch. Neben den derzeit etablierten interventionellen Therapieoptionen wurden in den letzten Jahrzehnten zahlreiche pharmakologische Behandlungsansätze untersucht.
