I have good news for readers of Journal of Wrist Surgery. Year 2023 will be a special year. In 2016, I wrote my first editorial to promise all readers of the journal that my tasks were (1) keeping high quality of the published papers, (2) establishing smooth review process, (3) creating strong editorial board, and (4) getting an impact factor for the journal. I tried to pursue these four tasks. The journal will obtain a Journal Citation Reports (JCR) impact factor for the first time in 2023. The journal is still indexed in Emerging Sources Citation Index, and due to the new rules of JCR, it will have the impact factor in 2023. This is a great news for readers, authors, and all editorial boards. Congratulations to all!

I now report 2022 statics of the journal. Submission numbers were 136 in 2016, 122 in 2017, 122 in 2018, 115 in 2019, 176 in 2020, and 143 in 2021, and we have 126 submissions in 2022 at this moment. Despite the pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 all over the world, we successfully received many submissions; however, the pandemic affected the review process and too many submissions delayed publication on the paper issue for approximately 1 year from the acceptance. Electrical publication needed 3 to 4 months of time after the acceptance. I feel sorry for this delay.

Since 2019, the journal has published six issues a year. Compared to 2012, we have six times larger space for original articles in the journal. In 2022, we published 1 special symposium on volar rim fracture of the distal radius fracture, 5 special reviews (editor's picked article or invited article), 43 scientific articles, 11 case reports, 5 procedure articles, 1 wrist and carpal anatomy article, and 6 survey or meta-analysis articles, and in total, 77 articles were published. However, we still have limited space for publication.

We have a higher acceptance ratio of close to 51% at this moment. This is due to the efforts of reviewers to refine the submitted articles through the review process as well as the increase in high-quality articles submitted. Since the space for publication is limited, we may decrease acceptance ratio in next year. A new impact factor of the journal may also affect the submission rate. I decided to set the word limit to 3,500 words in scientific articles to squeeze space for publication. Also, we will create a stable review process for rapid review and faster publication.

We must keep our impact factor high. I have decided to set the new category “Editor's pick,” where I will select one of the best papers from each issue and add it to “Editor's pick” section. I hope this will help to maintain our higher citations. In this issue, the “Editor's pick” is “All Inside Anatomic Arthroscopic (3A) Reconstruction of Irreparable TFCC Tear” by Atzei et al. The authors have developed a unique all-inside reconstruction technique for chronic foveal avulsion of the triangular fibrocartilage complex. Interesting wrist papers on topics, such as CMC arthroscopic treatment, dorsal wrist ganglion, scapholunate ligament reconstruction, scaphoid malunion, different procedures, and systematic review for proximal row carpectomy are also included. Do not miss it.
