Seit Jahrzehnten gilt die Versorgung von Zähnen mit Teilkronen aus metallischen Werkstoffen als erfolgreich. Erste durch MEDLINE gelistete Veröffentlichungen über metallische, indirekt gefertigte Restaurationen gehen bis in die 1950er-Jahre zurück. Bis heute gilt die Versorgung mit Metallteilkronen als der Goldstandard in der Versorgung teilweiser zerstörter Zähne.
