In den letzten Jahrenzehnten ist die Lebenserwartung deutlich gestiegen und Fortschritte in der Zahnmedizin haben gleichzeitig Erwartungen im Bezug auf eine gute Funktionalität des Gebisses und der damit verbundenen hohen Lebensqualität geweckt [1]. Zahnärzte sehen sich heute zunehmend mit multimorbiden Patienten konfrontiert, z.T. auch im extremen Lebensalter, die eine breite Palette von Systemerkrankungen mitbringen und sich dennoch extensiven zahnärztlichen Behandlungen unterziehen [2].
