Zusammenfassung

Etwa 12.500 Menschen/Jahr erhalten in Deutschland die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson und sehen sich mit Einschränkung, Stigma und Invalidität konfrontiert. Obwohl sich die Lebenserwartung der Erkrankten deutlich gebessert hat, ist die Diagnose daher weiterhin mit Angst verbunden. Medikamentöse Therapie und aktivierende Behandlungsmethoden haben einen wichtigen Stellenwert, dennoch entwickeln sich häufig motorische Wirkfluktuationen, die sich medikamentös nicht auffangen lassen. Seit nunmehr 30 Jahren ist jedoch die Tiefe Hirnstimulation verfügbar. Sie steht seither für die Faszination, die Funktion des Gehirns zu modulieren, und für die damit oftmals verbundene große Chance auf ein besseres Leben mit der unheilbaren Erkrankung.
