Abstract

Cryolipolysis is a noninvasive body contouring procedure for reduction of diet and local training resistant subcutaneous fat pads through timely and spatial circumscribed controlled cooling. Pathophysiologic active principle is the apoptosis, the programmed cell death of adipocytes through cooling. Cryolipolysis is a promising procedure for non surgical body contouring and presents a compelling alternative to liposuction and other, more invasive methods. Though cryolipolysis is low-risk, it is not risk-free. Besides radical tissue modification with influence on autoimmune processes, complications through internal/general diseases are to be considered.
