Schwere akzidentelle Intoxikation durch Koffeinextrakt

Zusammenfassung

Koffein ist die weltweit am häufigsten konsumierte stimulierende Substanz. Schwere Koffeinintoxikationen sind selten, aber mitunter fatal. Die Kasuistik beschreibt eine potenziell letale Intoxikation durch reinen Koffeinextrakt infolge „akzidenteller“ Überdosierung. Pharmakologie, Toxikologie, sowie Klinik und Therapie der Koffeinintoxikation werden erläutert.

Abstract

Caffeine is a widely available, frequently consumed stimulant that is generally considered to be relative safe. Severe or fatal intoxications are rare. This report presents a case of severe intoxication following accidental overdose of caffeine anhydrous. Pharmacology, toxicology, clinical presentation and therapy of caffeine intoxication are described.
