Trimethylstannylpyridines 1 were treated with bromopyridines 2 in the presence of catalytic amount of tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium to give the corresponding bipyridines 3 in moderate to good yields. Nicotelline (6) was similarly synthesized from 2, 4-bis(trimethylstannyl)pyridine (5) and 3-bromo-pyridine (2b).
