Synthesis and Reaction Behavior of 5-Azido-4-trifluoromethyl-1,3-azoles 5-Azido-4-trifluoromethyl-1,3-azoles 6, 7 are obtained from 5-fluoro-4-trifluoromethyl-1,3-azoles 4, 5. While 5-azido-4-trifluoromethyl-1,3-thiazoles 7 show the typical reaction pattern of azides, the corresponding 1,3-oxazoles 6 are thermolabile and decompose already at room temperature to give 4-cyano-4-trifluoromethyl-1-oxa-3-azabuta-1,3-dienes 14, a new class of hetero-1,3-dienes, in high yields.
