By treatment with carbonyl electrophiles, the carbanion of methoxybutenyne leads to electrophilic enynes. These are cleanly transformed into stable complexes of 1-functionalized 3-formyl allenes after coordination to dicarbonyl (η-methylcyclopentadienyl) manganese and deprotection-isomerization with diluted acetic acid. The exo-allene dialdehyde manganese complex was characterized by X-ray analysis.
