A range of carboxylic esters and acids has been converted efficiently to the corresponding alcohols with polymethylhydrosiloxane in the presence of titanium (IV) isopropoxide or zirconium (IV) ethoxide; a stereogenic centre adjacent to the ester is unaffected.
