Reaction of diethylzinc with aldehydes in the presence of a catalytic amount of a ß-amino thiol 6 (5 mol %) and the corresponding disulfide 7 (2.5 mol %) in toluene at 0 °C provided the corresponding secondary alcohols in excellent ee's.
