Two complimentary methods for the synthesis of trans-N-alkenyl-N-methylformamides from aldehydes are described. Method A involves condensation with MeNHCHO using P2O5, while Method B employs a Wittig reaction with 5 followed by I2-catalysed alkene isomerisation.
