The electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction by a chiral episulfonium ion, that works as a chiral carbenium ion equivalent, proceeds without loss of the enantiomeric purity. This reaction constitutes a convenient procedure for the preparation of chiral hydrocarbons bearing the aryl group at the asymmetric carbon atom with the predictable configuration.
