5,15-bis(trimethylsilylethynyl)-10,20-diaryl porphyrins can be synthesised from pyrrole in two steps either by reaction of meso-(trimethylsilylethynyl)dipyrromethanes with benzaldehydes or by reaction of meso-aryldipyrromethanes with trimethylsilylpropynal; the latter route is more efficient.
