The authors describe a rare case of a neurocytoma involving the skull base. Through a review of the available literature and based on their patient, they challenge the current theory regarding the origin of this neoplasm. The putative sites of origin and the general clinicopathologic characteristic of this disease are discussed adequately. Such discussion is valuable, not only for those who classify rare neoplasms, but for those involved in the care of patients with such disorders.
