ABSTRACT
The early years of microsurgery were spawned by ideas, experimental models, and possible
clinical applications. With the realization of these early concepts, clinical cases
of replantation and microvascular transplantation appeared in increasing numbers.
Further advances in dependable donor sites led to rapid expansion of clinical applications.
Now we are in an era of refinement and development. The applications of microvascular
procedures have evolved so that currently the primary concern is the functional and
cosmetic outcomes of reconstructive microsurgery.
