Akute Psychose nach Gabe von Bupropionhydrochlorid (Zyban®)

Zusammenfassung

Wir präsentieren die Fallvignette eines Patienten, der zur Raucherentwöhnung mit 300 mg retardiertem Bupropionhydrochlorid über fünf Tage behandelt wurde. Er wurde mit dem Bild einer akuten schizophreniformen Psychose stationär aufgenommen. Abgesehen von einem langjährigen Gebrauch von Cannabis erbrachte die Ausschlussdiagnostik keinen Hinweis auf einen anderen Auslöser als die Medikation mit Bupropion. Wir vermuten, dass Bupropion die psychotischen Symptome induziert hat.

Abstract

A 29-year old had been admitted to our institution with acute onset of schizophreniform psychosis after 5-day administration of sustained-release bupropion hydrochloride, which had been prescribed for nicotine withdrawal in a daily dosage of 300 mg. Examination results were found to be completely normal, apart from a positive drug screen for cannabis. We hypothesize that bupropion had induced psychotic symptoms in this patient.
