Mediastinum werden drei Bereiche unterschieden: das vordere Mediastinum liegt zwischen
Sternum und Rippen, das hintere verbindet Bauch- und Brustraum, während das mittlere
fast vollständig von Herz und Herzbeutel ausgefüllt wird.

Anatomic structure and function of the thorax - a topography of the medastinum
The mediastinum, the connective tissue’s stock in the thoracic cavity is divided anatomically
into four parts: the superior mediastinum has the thymus gland as its only organ.
The inferior mediastinum can be subdivided into three parts: the anterior mediastinum
situated between the sternum and the ribs, the posterior mediastinum connecting the
peritoneal and the thoracic cavity, and the middle mediastinum, which is almost completely
taken up with the heart and the pericardium.

Le médiastin, le stock de tissu conjonctif de soutien graisseux est divisé anatomiquement
en quatre parties: le médiastin supérieur contient comme seul organe le thyme. En
ce qui concerne le médiastin inférieur, on y distingue trois parties: le médiastin
antérieur se trouve entre le sternum et les côtes, le médiastin postérieur unit l’espace
du ventre et de la poitrine tandis que le médiastin moyen est presque complètement
rempli du cœur et du péricarde.
