Zusammenfassung
Komplementäre und alternative Methoden (CAM) werden von Krebspatienten häufig nachgefragt
und angewandt. Trotz mancher regionaler Unterschiede sind sie in vielen Ländern Europas
weit verbreitet. Sachliche und objektive Informationen aus unabhängiger Quelle sind
nicht immer vorhanden oder - selbst für Ärzte und Vertreter anderer Heilberufe - nicht
leicht zugänglich. Viele Institutionen haben daher bereits Initiativen zur qualifizierten
Information von Ärzten oder Patienten lanciert. Im Rahmen des von der Europäischen
Kommission geförderten CAM-Cancer Projektes (Concerted Action for Complementary and
Alternative Medicine Assessment in the Cancer Field) sollen diese Aktivitäten in einem
europäischen Netzwerk mittels gemeinsam genutzter Ressourcen gebündelt werden, um
die Aktualität und Vollständigkeit der Informationen zu erhöhen und Redundanzen zu
vermeiden. Internationale Experten aus verschiedenen onkologischen Organisationen
tragen Informationen aus Datenbanken und weiteren Quellen zusammen, bewerten deren
Relevanz, Gültigkeit und Zuverlässigkeit nach gemeinsamen Evidenzkriterien und stellen
sie der (Fach-)Öffentlichkeit zur Verfügung.
Summary
Complementary and alternative methods (CAM) are frequently asked for by cancer patients
and often used. Inspite of certain regional differences in the pattern of use CAM
are prevalent in European countries. Relevant and objective information from independent
sources is not always available or - even for doctors and other health professionals
- not easily accessible. Different cancer organisations have launched initiatives
to provide qualified information for health professionals or patients. The CAM-Cancer
project (Concerted Action for Complementary and Alternative Medicine Assessment in
the Cancer Field), which is funded by the European Commission, aims to integrate these
activities in a European authoritative network in order to offer more complete and
up-to-date information without redundancies. International experts from different
organisations in the cancer field will collect information from databases and other
sources, and will carry out a critical appraisal of relevance, validity and reliability
according to objective evidence criteria. This information on CAM will then be disseminated
to professional and non-professional users.
