Comparison between 1.5 MRI and 3T MRI in evaluating prostatic carcinoma
Puropose: The aim of the study is to compare the results of endorectal coil 1.5 MRI and cardiac coil 3T MRI in evaluating prostatic carcinoma.
Methods: Twenty consecutive patients affected with hystopatological proven prostatic cancer have been evaluated by both endorectal coil 1.5 MRI and cardiac coil 3T MRI. Two radiologist trained in pelvic MRI independently scored from 1 to 4, basing upon subjective criteria the image quality regarding the following regions: prostate cancer tissue, prostate capsule, seminal vesicle, neurovacular bundle and prostate apex.
Results: In 9/20 patients (1: unclear visibility, 2: fair visibility, 3: good visibility with some artefacts, 4: good visibility with artefacts) undergone to radical prostatectomy the staging diagnostic accuracy of endorectal 1.5 and cardiac coil 3T was compared.
No significative difference was found in image quality and staging accuracy between 1,5 e.r and 3t c.c
Conclusion: The preliminar conclusion is that 3T cardiac body coil can give the same diagnostic results of endorectal 1.5 without any disconfort for the patients.
