Significance

Aquacatalytic oxidation of secondary and primary alcohols using a thermomorphic PNIPAAm polymer-supported phosphotungstate under emulsive conditions is described. The oxidation of secondary alcohols was carried out with 1.5 equivalents of a 10% aqueous H2O2 solution in the presence of the catalyst (0.1-0.2 mol%) at 90 ºC to give the corresponding ketones in 88-93% yield (5 entries). The oxidation of primary alcohols gave the corresponding carboxylic acids in 84-89% yield (2 entries). The catalyst was recycled and reused three times.
