Topiramateinnahme während des Stillens

Zusammenfassung

Eine 33-jährige Patientin mit Epilepsie stillte ihr Kind während einer Topiramat(TPM)-Monotherapie mehr als ein Jahr lang. Das Kind entwickelte sich weitgehend normal und zeigte keine sicheren TPM-bedingten Nebenwirkungen. TPM ging in deutlichem Ausmaß in die Milch über, dies führte beim Kind jedoch nur zu einer sehr niedrigen TPM-Konzentration im Serum. Die noch sehr begrenzten Daten zum Stillen während einer Einnahme von TPM zeigen kein erhöhtes Risiko für die betroffenen Kinder.

Abstract

We present a 33-year old female patient treated with a topiramate(TPM)-monotherapy for the entire breast feeding period lasting more than one year. The child developed virtually normal and no adverse events were observed. The passage of TPM into the breast milk was extensive, nevertheless the measured serum concentration of TPM in the suckling infant was low. The up to now very limited data on breast-feeding by mothers treated with TPM indicates a minimal risk associated with nursing.
