In
Abstract
The Triple Stimulation Technique (TST) is a modern and highly sensitive clinical neurophysiological
method to detect functional impairment of the corticospinal tract (CST). In this study,
TST was used in 7 patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IPD) and in 7 with
Multiple System Atrophy of the parkinsonian type (MSA-P) to determine its differentialdiagnostic
potential. MSA-P patients showed a significant reduction of TST values in comparison
to the IPD patients without overlap of the individual values. It is concluded that
TST has the capacity to detect CST lesion in MSA-P patients and to contribute essentially
to the frequently difficult differentialdiagnosis between MSA-P and IPD.
