Objective: To present our experience with the use of fibrin glue in septoplasty.

Material and Method: In 17 cases of severely deviated nasal septum, certain pieces of dislocated quadrilateral cartilage and/or bone had to be removed. The cartilaginous pieces were crushed with a bone crusher, covered with fibrin glue on both surfaces, and implanted to cover the gap between the remaining cartilage and the surrounding bones.

Results: Though shortly postoperatively the nasal septum seems thicker, this procedure offers certain long-term advantages: no nasal septal perforations, no mucosal atrophy, very stable nasal septum with consequent preservation of the nasal tip support, no saddlenoses, no other changes in the profile of the nose.

Conclusion: Fibrin glue is useful in stabilizing implanted pieces of cartilage in septoplasty.
