Abstract
Callus cultures were established from hypocotyl explants of Cephaelis ipecacuanha, emetine and cephaeline were identified by HPLC in callus cultures. The effect of
macrosalts of different basal medium and hormones on growth and alkaloid accumulation
in callus tissues was investigated. Best growth in terms of wet/dry weight was obtained
on media containing macrosalts of B5 supplemented with 3% sucrose, 8 mg l-1 IBA, 4 mg l-1 IAA, and 4 mg l-1 NAA. The highest yields of alkaloids were detected in medium containing macrosalts
of SH with same hormone combination.
