Introduction

Survival after heart transplantation (HTx) has improved tremendously due to the availability of more effective immunosuppressive agents and adjunctive therapies. However, the patient remains challenged by adhering to a life-long complex and rigorous therapy for optimizing long-term outcome after HTx. Thus, the impact of adherence on long-term survival after HTx becomes obvious when focussing at the rates and risk factors of non-adherence to the medical regimen.
