Significance

Chaetominine is a modified tripeptide alkaloid isolated from an endophytic fungus known as Chaetomium sp IFBE015 that displays activity against human leukemia K562 and colon cancer SW1116 cell lines. The key step entails a δ-lactamization reaction (E F) using a catalytic amount of DMAP in refluxing toluene.
