Abstract
Non-invasive ICP monitoring over the fontanelle with the pressure-activated fibre-optical Ladd transducer has proven to be a reliable, accurate, and simple method. It was used in 140 continuous measurements in pre-term infants (800 gm) and infants up to 16 months with small fontanelles (6 mm in diameter). After determination of the aplanation pressure, the sensor is kept in place by a simple plaster dressing ( 6 × 6 cm) up to 72 hours.
