Significance

Organic-soluble iridium-carbene complexes 1 and 2 were synthesized in one step in ca. 50% yield. Complexes 1 and 2 display blue phosphorescence with quantum yields of 22 and 73%, respectively. Phosphorescent organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) constructed from complex 2 showed a stable, pure-blue color.
