Summary

Although ultrasound is frequently used in lymphology, opinions diverge as to the possibilities and value of this method of assessing lymphoedema. This review describes the ultrasound criteria of oedema and other types of fluid accumulation, discusses the capacity of ultrasound to distinguish between the different types of fluid accumulation and highlights the possibilities and limitations of ultrasound in lymphology.
