The impact of practice with an ERCP mechanical simulator was assessed in a randomized
controlled trial in novice surgical trainees learning how to perform ERCP. In 12 trainees
who undertook 300 ERCPs, shorter learning curves and better selective biliary cannulation
rates were observed, an effect that may be sustained in the early months of practice.
