Solution-Phase Stabilization of a Cyclocarbon by Catenane Formation.
Science 2025;

DOI:

Keywords
supramolecular stabilizing effect - cyclocarbons - [4]catenanes - cyclopolyalkynes
Significance
The solution-phase synthesis of a cyclo[48]carbon is accomplished for the first time
by employing the supramolecular stabilization strategy. Namely, a catenane motif is
used to protect a highly reactive, large cyclopolyalkyne.
Comment
In the obtained [4]catenane structure the cyclo[48]carbon ring is threaded through
three smaller macrocycles, which offer effective shielding and protection in spite
of the dynamic motion and incomplete encapsulation.
