Fehlfunktionen des angeborenen Immunsystems scheinen einen entscheidenden Einfluss auf die Entstehung vieler chronischer und ernährungsbedingter Erkrankungen (u. a. Metabolisches Syndrom, peridontale Erkrankungen) zu haben. Die Aktivierung des angeborenen Immunsystems erfolgt z. B. durch Nahrungsmittel und Chemikalien, wodurch es zur Auslösung einer entzündlichen Kaskade kommt – dies kann sich als Nahrungsmittel-Unverträglichkeit und Chemikalien-Überempfindlichkeit im Organismus manifestieren.
