Tetanus (Wundstarrkrampf) ist eine Infektionskrankheit bei Säugetieren, die durch das Bakterium Clostridium tetani ausgelöst wird und zu schweren Muskelkrämpfen führt. Tetanus kommt selten, aber regelmäßig beim Hund vor und entsteht meistens infolge einer penetrierenden Wundinfektion. Die Therapie kann sehr zeitaufwendig und kostenintensiv sein. Obwohl Tetanus heilbar ist, können schwere Komplikationen auftreten, die unter Umständen zum Versterben des Patienten führen.
