Sinonasal malignancies are basically rare tumors, accounting for 1 % of all malignancies
and only 3-5 % of all head and neck cancer. In the sex distribution of new diseases
there is a slight dominance in male patients. Non-specific symptoms such as recurrent
epistaxis, nasal obstruction and olfactory disturbances characterize the onset of
the disease. In the period from 01.05.2019 to 01.08.2020, 4 patients presented with
different diagnoses of endonasal tumors where treated at Halberstadt ENT department.
After complete ENT examination, all patients underwent staging, followed by rhinoscopy
and histological analysis. There were histopathological findings which were not expected
from the clinical picture. For example, a recurrent Epistaxis showed histologically
as a malignant melanoma of the mucosa in the upper left nasal passage. In a similar
case, one was initially considered polypous sinusitis with manipulation also demasked
as malignant melanoma. In another case, the cause of a papillary neoplasm of the nasal
septum was found clinically imposing as a polyp as an infiltration of a Diffuse Large
B-cell Lymphoma. In the 4th case, a cavernous hemangioma of the right middle turbinate was the cause of frequent
epistaxis and not a macroscopically malignant tumor as predicted. In summary, it should
be noted that in the treatment routine of clinically initially inconspicuous appearing
masses of the nose and paranasal sinuses is also to think of rare malignant tumor
entities.
