Laryngeal cancer is one of the most common cancers in the head and neck region. In
advanced stage total laryngectomy is an option of treatment, еspecially in cases of
failure of organ-preservation therapy. In our practice total laryngectomy is always
performed with neck dissection.
As a major surgical procedure in an area with concentration of essential structures,
total laryngectomy has many potential complications.
We present a case of a man with an advanced stage of laryngeal cancer who underwent
widespread total laryngectomy with neck dissection. During the postoperative period
a series of complications occurred, which could have led to a fatal end.
In this poster we review in detail the predisposing factors, manifestation, prevention
and management of these complications.
