Fabio Ferri de Barros was born on November 3, 1970, in São Paulo, Brazil. Dr. Barros
obtained his medical degree from the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Santa Casa de
São Paulo and his Medical Residency in Orthopedics and Traumatology at Pavilhão Fernandinho
Simonsen at Santa Casa de São Paulo. After that, he worked in Ilhabela for five years,
enjoying what he loved most: family, tropical beauty, and sports: surfing, long-distance
swimming in the sea, and diving. Dr. Barros took on new challenges on a training journey
to several locations in the United States, Australia, and Switzerland with top mentors
in his field.
In 2006, Dr. Barros applied the knowledge he acquired at the University of Toronto
in treating pediatric deformities, especially in the spine. He perfected his specialization
in Pediatric Orthopedics and Spine Surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children and completed
a Master's in Bioethics in Health Sciences. Dr. Barros found his mission in studying
evidence-based resources and interventions allocation to assist people with spinal
deformities, especially within public health systems. In 2010, Dr. Barros joined the
Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary, where he worked tirelessly to improve surgical
outcomes and care for the pediatric scoliosis population. Soon, he became the Director
of the Pediatric-Spine Fellowship program at this renowned institution. Due to his
professional dedication, Dr. Barros became President of the Canadian Pediatric Spine
Society. Dr. Barros received numerous international recognitions as an Honorary Member
of the Brazilian Society of Pediatric Orthopedics and the Brazilian Spine Society.
His publications made extensive contributions to the literature.
Dr. Barros was an active member of the RBO Consultant Board for many years.
Fabio Ferri de Barros prematurely left his family, who loved him so much - his wife
Natalia Marangoni Ferri de Barros and three children - and all his friends captivated
by his companionship and knowledge.
