Introduction Endoscopic middle ear surgery is increasingly important for minimally invasive resection
of glomus tympanicum tumors.
Methods We present a case series of patients who underwent endoscopic resection of glomus
tympanicum tumors at our clinic over the past 10 years.
Results Between 2014 and 2023, we performed complete endoscopic resection of glomus tympanicum
tumors (Glassock-Jackson I) in 3 patients. After endoscopic elevation of a tympanomeatal
flap, the tumor and its supplying vessel were visualized. Adrenaline-soaked sponges
and electrocoagulation were used for the endoscopic resection of the tumors in toto.
In one case, there was an intraoperative bleeding, which was successfully controlled
using an absorbable hemostat. Postoperatively, a good hearing outcome and improvement
of preoperative tinnitus were observed.
Discussion The endoscopic approach is highly suitable for the resection of small glomus tympanicum
tumors limited to the middle ear. This technique reduces intraoperative soft tissue
trauma and shortens the postoperative healing duration.
