Applications are invited for a full-time one year, or part-time two year course in
diagnostic medical ultrasound, specialising in echocardiography, general ultrasound,
obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound, physics or vascular ultrasound, and leading
to the University of London MSc degree in Medical Ultrasound. The course will commence
in October 2005, and will provide clinicians and medical scientists with intensive
training in both the theoretical basis of the subject and the required scanning and
diagnostic skills. The faculty will include many internationally recognised experts
in medical ultrasound.
The aim of the course is to provide a solid basis in the subject for a range of careers
in medical ultrasound including research, investigative services or teaching.
The course comprises lectures, seminars, practical demonstrations and training and
includes a research project, which will be designed to allow the student to make an
original contribution in the chosen area of research. Current research studies are
in the uses of contrast agents, three and four-dimensional imaging and image and signal
processing.
The course will be suitable for applicants with first degree or equivalent in medicine,
biological, engineering or physical science or other appropriate subject. Previous
experience in medical ultrasound would be an advantage.
