Die peripartale Kardiomyopathie ist eine seltene, aber potenziell lebensbedrohliche Erkrankung, die gegen Ende oder nach der Schwangerschaft auftritt. Die rechtzeitige Diagnose ist überlebensnotwendig. Das Wissen um die Symptomatik und Risikofaktoren hilft bei der Abgrenzung von sonstigen mit der Schwangerschaft einhergehenden Beschwerden. Auch die Zeit nach der Erkrankung ist eine Herausforderung für die Betreuung der betroffenen Frau.
