Introduction

Dissections of cervicocephalic arteries are rarely reported causes of neonatal ischemic stroke. In these reported cases, vascular dissections were presumably caused by direct vascular damage or stretch injury related to a traumatic delivery [J. Fluss et al. Eur J Paediatr Neurol 2016; 20:639–648]. Neonatal ischemic stroke is often missed initially because symptoms are nonspecific, mild, or absent and occur with a time delay [KH. Deeg et al. Ultraschall in Med 2017; 38:360–376]. The following case illustrates how cerebral Doppler ultrasound can contribute to early diagnosis and elucidation of complex vascular pathologies.
