Significance

Highly fluorinated molecules exhibit a variety of interesting properties which have been utilized in areas such as organic materials and catalysis. Barrelenes constitute an interesting class of molecules where the three π-orbitals are arranged in a Möbius fashion. They are interesting molecules both theoretically and as starting materials for various compounds. The authors report a synthesis of perfluorobarrelene in three steps from 1, as reported previously.
