Alkaloids Contents in Leaves of Artificial Interspecific F1 Hybrids between Duboisia myoporoides and D. leichhardtii1

Abstract

A comparative study was made of the total alkaloid, scopolamine and hyoscyamine contents of leaves of Duboisia myoporoides, D. leichhardtii and their interspecific F1 hybrids produced by reciprocal crossing. Some F1 hybrids contained higher percentages of alkaloids than their parents; this was greatest when the female parent was D. myoporoides, showing up to or greater than two–fold increases in total alkaloids, scopolamine and hyoscyamine.
