Abstract
An anatomical study of the dry leaves of 36 species from various sections of the genus Verbascum is reported.
A great number of characteristics which are of taxonomic value for this genus were established, namely: epidermis, epidermal formations, subepidermal tissue, shape, number and structure of vascular bundles, the tissue in which xylem ends, parenchymal tissue around the vascular bundles, phloem :xylem ratio, etc.
A key is proposed for the identification of the 36 Verbascum species by the anatomical characteristics of the drug leaves.
