Abstract

The composition of essential oils from different parts of fresh plants of Pastinaca sativa indicate four chemotypes : plants with high respectively low amount of myristicine in herb oil – plants with presence respectively absence of acetic acid esters of aliphatic C 8– and C 10–alcohols in fruit oil.

Several wild collections and cultivated varieties of parsnip were analysed. A correlation of high amount of myristicine with cultivated varieties and low quantities with wild collections of parsnip is not valid.
